Welcome to Vigan

The name Vigan was derived from "Biga", a giant taro plant that grows abundantly along the banks of the Mestizo River. About 400 kilometers from Manila is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Vigan the capital city of Ilocos Sur. It is located on the west coast of northern Luzon.

You can see precious remnants of old Spanish architecture throughout the center of the city.Vigan is established in the 16th century and is the best-preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia with a unique European atmosphere. It is the oldest surviving Spanish colonial city in the Philippines. Several museums exist for the many national heroes that were born here.

St. Augustine Church and its Bell Tower

This is one of the old and grand church in Ilocos region, The St. Augustine Church and its Bell Tower also known as the Bantayan Church and Bell Tower. But according to the people, Bell Tower is most commonly known as Panday Tower as the famous FPJ's movie Panday was filmed here.

Bantay Belfry Tower also known as Panday (1591)

Juan Luna's Home and his work of Arts

After viewing Marcos' mausoleum, we went to Juan Luna's Gallery. This picture was taken beside the famous Spolarium.  I felt that I am included in the painting :D

Marcos Mausoleum in Batac

This is the entrance of Marcos Mausoleum. You can't take picture upon reaching this point. Only Madam Marcos has the right to show Mr. Marcos coffin in public and that is for publicity(as they say).

Since no picture-taking allowed inside the Mausoleum, we go to the museum after sighting Mr. Marcos' coffin.  The Museum looks like a gallery or is a gallery of their achievements and family pictures.

Paoay Church one of UNESCO's World Heritage

From the MalacaƱang, we visited the Paoay Church nearby and hope some picture-taking. Paoay Church is included in UNESCO World Heritage list. Construction of the church started from 1704 and finished in 1894 by the Augustinian friars led by Fr. Antonio Estavillo. It is probably the best-known “earthquake Baroque” church in the Philippines.

MalacaƱang of the North

MalacaƱang of the North is also known as MalacaƱang ti Amianan among Ilocanos. This was built during President Marcos' era. And being dubbed as his country, Ilocos Norte is home to many of his remnants and one of these is the MalacaƱang of the North. According to Ilocano's Marcos love to stay here rather than MalacaƱang Palace.

Patapat Bridge and Swimming at Pagudpud

After eating at Tera Rika in Pagudpud, we then look for a place to swim. Of course, we wanted to try Pagudpud's beaches as they say it looks like Boracay, its powdery white sands and tranquil environs. On our way, we stopped by and have some pictures here in Patapat Viaduct, the famous zigzag bridge. It was first constructed to answer the landslides problem in that area and now became one of the tourist attractions in Ilocos Norte.

Giant Fans: Bangui Windmill

Our next stop from Kapurpurawan is the Bangui Windmill or the Bangui Farm, the famous windmill in the world that lay along the coast of Ilocos Norte.. :) The windmill is one of their energy source in Ilocos. This supports their electricity aside from the Agua Grande, their water energy source. All I can say is that, it's very good. The idea and its technology, perfect. :D

The Kapurpurawan: Limestone Formation

From Cape Bojeador, we headed our journey to Kapurpurawan. Hidden beauty from the city. Hidden because you have to walk 200 to 350 meters to get there. And I'm telling you, its worth the sacrifice! This is one of my most favorite place here in Ilocos.

Cape Bojeador Lighthouse in Burgos

From Sta. Monica Parish Church in Sarrat, we headed to Burgos which is 35km north of Laoag City to visit Faro Cabo Cape Bojeador or Cape bojeador Lighthouse with some people also calling it as Burgos lighthouse, sitting in the hill of Vigia, 160 meters above sea level. According to history Cape Bojeador Lighthouse in Burgos is the tallest lighthouse in the Philippines built-in 1892 and continues to serve as beacon to passing ships.   I think its not working nowadays.

Sta. Monica Parish Church and Bell Tower

Alongside the Pasdan River, which was overran by native cottages on the side stands the Sta Monica Parish Church also known as Sarrat Church and Bell Tower, the largest church in the whole of Ilocos Region and considered as one of the oldest churches here. This church is near the Marcos Museum

Pictures were taken outside the church, for some reasons :)

Marcos Museum in Sarrat

From Sand dunes we travel up north to Sarrat to see the museum. The Museum is also the ancestral house of the Edralin which is former Pres. Marcos' maternal side of the family and is also the birth place of our late president Ferdinand E. Marcos. He lived here until they moved to Batac City when he was eight (8) years old.

Pink Watch from Unisilver

My entry is my Pink Watch from Unisilver.

I recently bought this watch online together with my husband's. I'm just being curious and at the same time attracted to its color. Curious if it's as good as black colored watch. And to my surprise, it's pretty indeed! And from then on, I started using it as my everyday watch along with my swatch watch. :)

Sand Dunes of Ilocos Norte

If you're familiar with Marian Rivera's movie "The Temptation Island" wherein they were stranded and suffered hunger, well they shoot it here in Sand dunes, La Paz in Laoag City. You can go there by commuting or by renting a van or private transport. I'm suggesting to those who want to have an Ilocos tour to rent a private vehicle to maximize their time. For those who want a long walk, you can reach it from Fort Ilocandia.

Ilocos Tour

Since the airport is in Laoag City, we looked for the accommodation near that area. Going to Ilocos could be by air or by land transport. We were lucky to find low fares so we grabbed the opportunity. The advantage of using the plane is that you can reach the place in an hour but its disadvantage is that there's a greater turbulence because of the small-sized plane. If you are to use the bus, it may take 8-10 hours of travel and will cost you around 700-1,000 bucks depending on the place you will visit, e.g. Vigan or Laoag.
