Sand Dunes of Ilocos Norte

If you're familiar with Marian Rivera's movie "The Temptation Island" wherein they were stranded and suffered hunger, well they shoot it here in Sand dunes, La Paz in Laoag City. You can go there by commuting or by renting a van or private transport. I'm suggesting to those who want to have an Ilocos tour to rent a private vehicle to maximize their time. For those who want a long walk, you can reach it from Fort Ilocandia.

It's beautiful there, it looks like preserved desert landscape. So spectacular and very interesting geographical feature in the Philippines. During our visit, the sands were intact and grasses were partly growing because its rainy season. Maybe if its summer, it will look exactly as a desert in Middle East.

The Ilocos Norte Sand Dunes is unique in the country (it's the only place where you can find a desert in tropical country) and stretches from the municipality of Currimao in the north and winds its way to La Paz, Laoag City, then to Suba (has the most extensive and continuous stretch), Paoay and finally in Pasuquin in the south with a total of 52 square miles.

Some movies were also shoot here like the Temptation Island (filmed by Joey Gosiengfiao in 1980) and the now showing one, Born on the fourth of July by Oliver Stone and Ishmael Bernal's classic Walang Himala starring Ms. Nora Aunor.
