How to make Clay Pots?

Aside from its tourism,  Burnay Pottery  is also one of the famous sight in Vigan and also the main source of their living. As part of our tour, we visited the "Pagburnayan", where we got to see the hard labor of a pot maker in making these clay pots.

Ruby Pottery is located in # 65 Leberation St., Pagburnayan, Vigan City.

The making of burnay is done with just the use of the potter’s skillful hands and use of pottery wheel and kiln. Fine sand is used to temper the clay, which once fashioned into the desired shape is placed inside high-temperature ground kilns made from brick and clay. 

Kuya Freddie showed us how to make Burnay clay pot.

First step is to scoop some clay mud from their deposits.

Then Kuya Freddie tediously spins the wooden base by his feet then put the clay on it and started molding.

This is the almost finished flower vase. According to Kuya Freddie, they will dry it for a week before putting in the pugon for final touch.
